Bowman Breaks Through for Statement Win in UNOH College Cup Series

The Collegiate iRacing League UNOH College Cup Series delivered another high-level battle this week as a 31-driver field took on a 150-lap contest packed with changing strategies, late-race pressure, and constant position swings. When the checkered flag flew, it was James Bowman of the University of Kentucky who emerged on top after leading a race-high 68 laps and executing when the race reached its most critical moments.

Race Recap

Bowman’s win was built on patience as much as pace. In a race defined by interruptions and restarts, he steadily worked his way forward before taking command of the event’s late stages. The race itself featured six cautions for 20 caution laps, and the constant resets kept the field tightly packed for much of the night.

Reece Baham of Auburn University finished second after leading 24 laps of his own, while Tyler Skoczen of the University of Northwestern Ohio completed the podium after charging forward from 15th on the grid. It was a result that showcased both Auburn’s depth and UNOH’s continued ability to stay in contention near the front.

The race developed in several distinct phases. Early on, the lead rotated among multiple contenders, reinforcing just how difficult it was for any one driver to fully control the event. Later, the balance of the race shifted again as cautions and strategy shuffled the order and created a tense closing run.

How the Race Turned

The middle and late stages ultimately decided the outcome. Bowman held the lead through a key stretch before Reece Baham moved to the front on Lap 96. Tyler Skoczen then briefly took control on Lap 97, showing the intensity of the fight at the sharp end of the field. Bowman ultimately returned to the point and closed the race out from there, turning a competitive night into a statement victory.

That closing sequence summed up the event as a whole: no lead was safe, and every restart mattered. The race’s 13 lead changes reflected just how competitive the field remained throughout the night.

Standout Performers

Beyond the podium, several drivers delivered major forward drives.

Andrew Voigt of Pennsylvania State University climbed from 22nd to finish fifth, while J. Andrew McGill of Auburn University rose from 25th to sixth. Rodger Premo of Paul Smith’s College also cut through the field to finish seventh. The biggest mover of the race was Cade Corbin of the University of Alabama in Huntsville, who charged from 30th on the grid to finish eighth.

Not every fast car made it to the front at the finish. Jake Cummings showed race-winning pace and recorded the event’s fastest lap at 297.436 seconds, but the result did not match the speed he showed during the race. It was a reminder that in a race like this, raw pace alone was never going to be enough.

Championship Outlook

The result gives James Bowman and the University of Kentucky a major boost, but it also reinforces how competitive the UNOH College Cup Series remains. Auburn University once again placed multiple drivers near the front, while UNOH stayed in the fight with a podium finish from Tyler Skoczen. With several programs continuing to show front-running pace, the championship picture remains wide open as the season moves forward.

For now, though, the spotlight belongs to Bowman. In one of the most competitive races of the season so far, he delivered the kind of performance that can shape momentum deep into a championship run.
